Special Board Meeting Update for February 16, 2023

The Waco ISD Board of Trustees approved Trustee Emily Iazzetti’s resignation at a special meeting held on February 16, 2023. Trustee Iazzetti had informed the board on Monday of her intention to resign her position as the District 5 Trustee in May due to her family relocating at the end of the school year.

The board unanimously voted to call a special election to fill the unexpired term in district 5. The seat will appear on the May 6, 2023 ballot and will expire in May 2025.

This special election will be held in conjunction with the regular school board election called for May 6, 2023.  Filing for the special election will open Friday, February 17 at 8 a.m. and close Monday, March 6 at 5 p.m.

Waco ISD’s District 5 includes the neighborhoods between Richland Mall and the lake as well as some areas near Baylor University. A map showing the trustee districts can be found at wacoisd.org/redistricting.

Individuals who wish to become candidates for these positions may begin filing applications for a place on the ballot on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Applications can be filed between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday on the 10th floor of the Waco ISD Administration Building (501 Franklin Avenue, Waco).
