Filing is underway for the May school board election

Three seats on the Waco ISD Board of Trustees will appear on the ballot for the May 2, 2020 election. This includes positions representing District 3, Position 3 and At-Large, Position 7, which are scheduled to be on the 2020 ballot, and a special election to fill the unexpired term for At-Large, Position 6.

Individuals who wish to become candidates for the positions representing District 3 and At- Large, Position 7 began filing applications for a place on the ballot on Jan. 15. Candidates for the other position may begin filing on Jan. 24. Applications can be filed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday on the 10th floor of the administration building.

Applications can be obtained from either the Secretary of State’s website ( or the office of the Chief of Staff at the Waco ISD Administration Building (501 Franklin Avenue, Waco). A packet with an application for a place on the ballot and additional information can also be downloaded from the district's website.

Applications for District 3, Position 3 and At-Large, Position 7 must be filed with the office of the Chief of StaffI Elections Administrator by 5 p.m. on Feb. 14. Applications for At-Large, Position 6 must be filed with that office by 5 p.m. on Mar. 3.

Jose Vidana currently represents District 3, Position 3; Cary DuPuy represents At-Large, Position 7; and Robin Houston represents At-Large, Position 6. Vidana and Houston were appointed in June 2019 to fill two vacancies until the next regularly scheduled trustee election.

Trustees in District 3, Position 3 and At-Large, Position 7 will be elected to three-year terms, which expire in May 2023. The trustee elected to At-Large, Position 6 will serve out the unexpired term for that seat, which ends in May 2021.
