Waco ISD announces new South Waco Elementary principal

WACO, TX (April 17, 2024)--Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon has selected  Amy Atnip as the next principal of South Waco Elementary School starting July 1, 2024.

Atnip currently serves as the assistant principal at Dean Highland Elementary and has served as a campus administrator for two years. She has nearly a decade of experience in elementary education, serving as a classroom teacher at several grade levels and an instructional specialist at Kendrick Elementary.

Atnip says she is excited to move into the role of principal at South Waco Elementary.

“I am honored to be able to serve such a sensational group of educators, staff, students, parents, and community members,” Atnip said. “My purpose as an educator centers around providing access to engaging and on-level instruction to all students in order to close achievement gaps and redesign the systems that create those gaps. I can't wait to engage in the incredible work that has already been happening at South Waco. Go Spartans!"

Atnip earned her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and her master’s degree from the University of North Texas. She is currently enrolled in a doctoral program for Curriculum and Instruction.

“Mrs. Atnip has a proven track record of improving academic achievement through strong academic systems and data analysis,” Kincannon said. “I appreciate the way that she partners with students, parents and staff to get results.”

Atnip will meet with students and families in advance of moving into her new role this summer.  An introduction event for students and parents to meet the new principal will be held at the school cafeteria on May 1, 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
