Friday night is a night the Lions would love to forget. Five of the first six Lion possessions resulted in punts and the offense was only able to muster four total yards in the first half.
Cove started the scoring on their second play from scrimmage and scored on each of their next two drives to go up 21-0. By halftime the lead had ballooned to 41-0.
The Lion defense had difficulty containing the Dawg's speed all evening long until a 3rd quarter interception in the endzone to thwart a Dawg scoring drive. The Cove defense returned the favor with a TD off a fumble recovery late in the same quarter.
The Lion offense finally broke the scoring drought midway through the 4th quarter and scored once more before the final horn to make the final score 68-14.
Cove ended up with 556 yards on the ground and 714 total for the game. Waco accounted for 100 yards total offense.
With the loss, Waco goes to (1-4; 0-3) and comes back home to the friendly confines of Waco ISD Stadium this Friday to take on the Knights of Harker Heights who are winless on the season and also looking for their first district victory. Should be a great opportunity to get back in the win column. It is also Homecoming 2018, so all alumni make plans to attend and root on your Lions to victory.
