Waco ISD Hosts Tennyson Middle School Groundbreaking Ceremony
WACO, TX- Waco ISD leaders, students, staff and community members will be marking another major milestone of the 2021 bond program by breaking ground for the construction of a new Tennyson Middle School.
The current Tennyson Middle School facility has played an important role in the community since first opening its doors in 1960. At 184,000 square feet, the new campus will be large enough to accommodate 1,060 students. The campus is set to open in time for the 2024-2025 school year and will align with the campus’s vision to empower each student to explore their potential, pursue their passions, and positively influence their communities.
“This is an exciting time at Waco ISD, breaking ground on our third school is an amazing milestone for our students and our community,” said Waco ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Kincannon. “Education has changed dramatically over the last six decades, and when I look to the future I am in awe of the educational opportunities that this new facility will provide.”
Special guests for the event include former Tennyson Middle School Administrator and Associate Executive Director of Governance Services for the Texas Association of Schools, Dr. Robert Duron, Tennyson Middle School student Taleigh Carter, and future Tennyson Middle School student Khyrin Barrett.
In November 2021 Waco ISD voters approved a $355 million-dollar bond program to replace Waco High, G.W. Carver Middle, Tennyson Middle and Kendrick Elementary with new schools built in the same locations and to renovate South Waco Elementary.
Construction on Tennyson Middle School is scheduled to be completed in one phase, with a total budget of $77.6 million.
