School Day Hours - Early Release
Elementary & Lake Air Montessori | 7:45 - 12:30
Middle & High School | 8:30 - 1:15

Update as of July 21, 2020:

Dr. Farley Verner, the Medical Authority for the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District, has issued control measures on all public and private schools who offer instruction to students in any and all grades effective July 21, 2020. A delay to in-person classes (not a closure) takes effect for McLennan County for pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Key points in the Order include:

  • In-person classes and other school activities will not occur until after September 7th.
  • On-line classes are allowed.
  • Each school system will develop and submit a written plan on resuming in-person classes and activities to the Health Authority by Aug 21st.

The Waco ISD Board of Trustees will consider adoption of the proposed 2020-2021 calendar as planned on July 23, 2020.

Original post:

The Waco ISD Board of Trustees will consider delaying the start of the 2020-2021 school year until after Labor Day during its regular meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 23.

Not only does this delay allow more time for district staff and teachers to plan and prepare, especially for remote instruction, but it also provides additional time for the recent rise in local cases of COVID-19 to slow. The proposed calendar can be found at

The major changes of the proposed calendar include:

  • The first day of school for students would be September 8, 2020 instead of August 18, 2020.
  • The first semester would extend into 2021, concluding on January 15, 2021.
  • The last day of school for students would be June 10, 2021 instead of May 27, 2021.

NOTE: Thanksgiving/fall break, winter break, spring break and other student holidays would remain as previously scheduled.
