H-E-B Celebrity Cookoff Raises More Than $112,000 for Waco ISD

The H-E-B Celebrity Cookoff benefiting the Waco ISD Education Foundation celebrated its 13th year March 29 at the Waco Convention Center. With 27 local celebrities/teams serving as chefs, more than 40 sponsors and approximately 400 attendees, the night brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, all for the benefit of Waco ISD students via innovative classroom grant projects. 

Thanks to sponsors, chefs and guests, more than $112,000 was raised, giving teachers the opportunity to provide unique and engaging programs and projects for their students. 

A highlight of the event included the announcement that the UHS Culinary Arts program - a first-time chef team - won one of the coveted "Top Chef" awards. Joe Calao, master of ceremonies for the evening, said it best - "This event is all about the kids, and tonight, the kids won."

More than $111,000 in grants was funded for the 2018-2019 school year, and funding for the the 2019-2020 school year will be announced May 21 when the foundation's SurPrize Patrol visits the classrooms and campuses that were selected.
