• Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) Fund

    In June 2021, the TEA approved Waco ISD's application to receive its share of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds from the American Rescue Plan. This is the third law providing funding as a response to the pandemic, the ARP is also referred to as ARP ESSER III or ESSER III. Over the next three years, Waco ISD plans to use $49.9 million in funds to provide academic support to help close learning gaps that emerged during the pandemic, social-emotional support to meet mental health needs, and support for a culture of literacy.     TEA has released two-thirds of the total allocation to Texas School Districts. The remaining one-third will be made available upon the USDE’s approval of the states spending plan.

    Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (ESSER II) Fund

    The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, 2021, was signed into law on December 27, 2020, and provided an additional $54.3 billion to public schools for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER II) Fund. Waco ISD plans to use these funds to increase teacher retention, close the learning gap due to the pandemic by providing students with additional interventions/accelerated instruction, improve literacy, purchase additional technology, provide student enrichment opportunities, and additional mental health/behavior support.
