Transfer Guidelines

In-District Student Transfer Guidelines

  • All students shall be assigned to a school in the attendance area in which he or she resides, unless a transfer request has previously been approved by Student Services and the transferring student is in compliance with the transfer criteria.

 

NEW In-District Transfer Request

  • NEW In-District transfer requests must be filed with the Executive Director of Student Support and be approved by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with FDB (Local)
  • These NEW requests shall be submitted each year for review. 
      • Transfers are subject to campus capacity limitations at the requested campus.

 

RETURNING In-District Transfer Request (Previously Approved) 

  • RETURNING In-District transfer request will be renewed annually following campus administrative review of the student for compliance to maintaining the below "Transfer Criteria" are met.

 

Transfer Criteria

  • In evaluating a request for transfer, the following criteria shall be considered:
    • Program needs of the student and program availability of the campus;
    • Available space of the school to which the student requests a transfer;
    • Extraordinary family considerations;
    • UIL rules; and
    • A student’s attendance and/or discipline history.
  • The District reserves the right to revoke an intradistrict transfer request to a campus for the following reasons:
    • Violation of standards contained in the Student Code of Conduct or student handbook;
    • Unacceptable attendance;
    • Campus capacity;
    • Any District exigency that would require adjustments in campus enrollment; or
    • False information was provided on the in-district transfer form.
  • Campus capacities will be reviewed annually. Campuses that are at their capacity threshold will be closed to any new intradistrict transfers.

 

Transportation

  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will be responsible for transporting their child to and from school.

 

Considerations for 2024-2025 In-District Transfers:

  • In-district transfer requests will be approved or denied by the opening of the online registration window after priority has been given to students residing in the requested school’s attendance zone and campus capacity is verified.
    • Priority is given to returning transfer students who are entering 5th, 8th, 11th or 12th grade.
    • Students who have two consecutive years of enrollment at a campus as a transfer student will have priority.
    • Approval of this request is based on campus capacity as well as prior year attendance and discipline.

 

Out-of-District Transfer Guidelines

  • All transfer requests must be filed with the Executive Director of Student Support and be approved by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with FDB(Local).
  • All transfers are subject to space available at the requested campus.
  • Approved out-of-district transfer students shall be assigned to the campus in closest proximity to his or her home address. 
    • If that campus cannot accommodate the transfer due to space, the student will be placed at the campus in next-closest proximity until a campus with available space is found. This shall not apply to out-of-district transfer of an employee’s child.

 

Transfer Criteria

  • All transfer requests shall be submitted each year for review. In evaluating a request for an out-of-district transfer, the Superintendent or designee shall consider the criteria established in FDA (local):
    • Program needs of the student and program availability of the campus;
    • Available space of the school to which the student requests a transfer;
    • UIL rules; and
    • A student’s attendance and/or discipline history.
  • The District reserves the right to revoke an out-of-district transfer request for the following reasons:
    • Violation of standards contained in the Student Code of Conduct or student handbook;
    • Unacceptable attendance;
    • Campus capacity;
    • Any District exigency that would require adjustments in campus enrollment; or
    • False information was provided on the out-of-district transfer form.

Transportation

  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will be responsible for transporting their child to and from school.
