• On June 6, 2024, Dr. Susan Kincannon announced her plans to retire as superintendent effective September 30, 2024. Her career spans 34 years in public education, including more than a decade serving as a superintendent. She has been the superintendent of Waco ISD since August 2019. You can read more about her announcement by clicking here.

Following Dr. Kincannon's announcement, the Board of Trustees took action to employ the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to assist with the search for a new superintendent. Key components of the search process will include opportunities for the community to be engaged.

Community Input & Online Survey

  • A superintendent is the educational leader and chief executive officer of a district. In Waco ISD, he or she will be responsible for more than 13,600 students, 2,000 employees, the daily operations of over 25 campuses and facilities, and the overall district's success.

In identifying the next Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Trustees is seeking a person who will continue to lead Waco ISD with heart and for results for our students, staff and community. The Board recognizes the important role that our staff and community play in the district's overall success and would like all staff, parents and community members to share what qualities are important to them for Waco ISD's next leader.

Please lend your voice to this superintendent search process by attending an in-person community involvement session where a TASB search consultant will facilitate discussions about desired leadership qualities for the next Waco ISD Superintendent. The schedule of those meetings is as follows:
