Service learning is an educational experience that meets real community needs in collaboration with schools and the community. It requires active student participation and is student led. Academics are integrated into the service learning to enhance what the students are taught in school. Long-term, goals of service learning are to provide opportunities for students to apply new knowledge in their own community and to foster a sense of empathy and civic duty.

Service Learning Manager
“Education of the mind without education of the heart is no education at all.” – Aristotle
Hi, I’m the Family Support Specialist at Indian Spring Middle School. From 2016-2018, I was the Service Learning Manager at ISMS. In my new role, I will be assisting in the oversight of our Afterschool Program, Service Learning Program, and of community partners/volunteers. Service learning is a way to connect community needs and students' passions with academics. Currently, we ask volunteers to commit to coming once a week to facilitate small student groups and guide them in developing their own service projects. We’ve had groups connect with organizations like Meals on Wheels, the Family Abuse Center, and World Hunger Relief.
If you would like to connect with our program as a volunteer, service site, or business sponsor, let me know!
