Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD)

The Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) serves childen in Waco and surrounding areas who are deaf and hard of hearing.  RDSPD focuses on providing specialized intervention towards maximizing communication development for students.  Program staff, coordinated with ECI services, works with parents and students from birth until age 3 in their homes.

Any student from birth to 21 (inclusive) whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) live within the boundaries of one of the member districts, could be eligible for membership in the RDSPD. Eligibility (as defined by the Texas Education Agency) is based on documented hearing loss as well as the subsequent linguistic impact and educational need. Only the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee can establish a student’s eligibility for services, appropriate instructional arrangement, setting, and placement.

Intervention considerations for all students include sign language training, amplification, auditory training, speech and language development.  Preschool, elementary, and secondary classes are available to enrolled students. Itinerant services are provided for students who maintain most of their instruction in the general education classroom.

Please contact the Waco ISD Special Education Department at 254-755-9569 if you suspect your child has a hearing loss.
