Julie Pena

Julie is a Baylor University graduate, with understudies at McLennan Community College.  She started off in a smaller school district teaching 1st grade and has been with Waco ISD since 2006 where, over the years, she has taught 2nd grade, Gifted and Talented for grades 1-5, and ESL students for grades 6-8.  Some of her other duties (other than teaching) included being the Adopt-a-School chair, LPAC chair, campus UIL coordinator, campus Education Foundation coordinator, mentor teacher, and assisted with TELPAS.

Julie found a new love for teaching when she taught English language learners.  In 2016, she began her current job as an ESL Strategist/Interventionist with the English Learners Department and has felt very fortunate to be a part of this department and to able to work with many previous and new students.  She hopes she can help them acquire more English skills, while becoming more confident in their second language and in life.

Julie has four children that have blessed her life.  Her hobbies include spending time with her family and friends, getting stronger through various kinds of physical activities (weight lifting, hiking, and running,) traveling, spending time outdoors, thrifting, and practicing Spanish.
