UHS VITA Tax Program

Description of the Program

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $55,000 or less, and persons who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified student volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

Students & Training

Students are all trained using the official IRS Certification lessons and exams in class. Theya re taken through an extensive process of learning all ins and outs of Tax/tax laws, how to use the systems. 

Also, we have Baylor students with the accounting department volunteering with us for the last two years. We are so grateful to have their help and to have an opportunity to introduce them to the waco community while allowing them an opportunity to gain effective tax experiences.

Security: 

Completely Electronic process using the IRS software provided by the VITA program. So we don’t keep any important documents around.
