AVID—Advancement Via Individual Determination
What is AVID?
AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. AVID is a nationwide academic support program and elective class for 6th-12th graders that helps prepare them college and careers. In the AVID elective class, students will:
- learn study and organizational skills
- strengthen reading and writing skills
- participate in tutorials 2-3 times a week, working collaboratively to be successful in the most rigorous courses
- build leadership potential
- receive assistance with applying for colleges, universities, scholarships and financial aid
- explore colleges and careers through guest speaker and field trip opportunities
AVID Secondary Campuses: Carver Middle School, Cesar Chavez Middle School, Tennyson Middle School, University High School, and Waco High School
AVID Elementary Campuses: Cedar Ridge, Crestview, and Kendrick
