  • 5th Grade Walking Field Trip

    Waco Creek

Today, Ms. Baker's 5th grade class, Mrs. DeGraff,  Science  Lab teacher, City of Waco Water Department, and Keep Waco Beautiful conducted a walking field trip to the Waco Creek located in Bell's Hill Park.  Mrs. DeGraff recieved EPA/Baylor University subgrant monies to educate students about water quality.  These students have been learning about human impact on water quality and saw first hand some negative effects that people's trash can do. Nora Schell, City of Waco Wetlands Manager, demonstrated how water sampling is done.  Further analysis of the water sample will be done by the City of Waco lab.  Keep Waco Beautiful outfitted the students with vests, plastic bags and litter pickers in order to rid the park of any ground trash.  Students enthusiastically filled 8 bags with trash! Students brought their ipads to document it all.  They will conduct a community outreach in April to encourage fellow students and parents to recycle.  It is hoped that students will be more conscious of where their trash goes and how it affects water quality.

Bell's Hill Third Grade Barn Dance

    barn dance

Our third grade Barn Dance, was a great success. Our PE teachers, Coach Tighe and Coach Curry did a great job teaching students several line dance songs. This is our second year to do a Barn Dance and area already planning what we will do different in the upcoming school year. It is always a great thing to watch our teachers and staff visit performances; however, when they come to the Barn Dance and get up and particpate with the students, it makes it even more special. We thank each staff member for coming and participating in this event and a special thanks to all of the parents who not only came, but came and danced with their child.
