Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.
Waco ISD Superintendent

 

Dr. Susan Kincannon joined the Waco Independent School District as superintendent in September 2019. Kincannon has served in public education for over 30 years as a teacher, principal, assistant/deputy superintendent and superintendent. She received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, a master’s degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Baylor University. 

Under Kincannon’s leadership from 2011 to 2019, Belton ISD constructed and opened several new schools including four elementary schools, two middle schools, a technical high school, an early childhood school, and a comprehensive high school to serve 2,500 students. Additionally, multiple construction projects resulted in a new multi-sport athletics complex, ag barn and auto tech facility and a renovated district fine arts center, among others.

While managing the district’s growth, Kincannon also facilitated planning for the implementation of a one-to-one technology initiative in grades 6-12. Hundreds of visitors from all over the world visited Belton ISD to learn about the success of the one-to-one initiative. 

Kincannon was named a Distinguished Baylor Woman in February 2019, an award given to women who earned a degree from Baylor University and who have made a significant contribution to the Central Texas area. Some of the boards and organizations she has served include: Belton Chamber of Commerce, Central Texas Housing Consortium, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, Temple Business League, Waco Business League, and Prosper Waco.

Kincannon grew up in the Central Texas area, graduating from Copperas Cove High School. She and her husband, Keith, have one daughter, Kale, who is a junior in the University Scholars program at Baylor University.
