Conducting Research in Waco ISD
The Waco Independent School District supports high quality research that addresses well-informed research questions of educational importance. At the same time, the district has moral and legal obligations that require oversight of research activities that make use of district resources such as data, facilities, employee time and access to students.
Applying for Research Approval
You must submit an application if your research/evaluation project includes collecting and/or using individual-level data from or about Waco ISD students, staff, or parents (e.g., observations, surveys, tests, interviews, focus groups, filming, or other direct data-gathering methodologies). Active consent for student participation must be obtained from parents/guardians before data can be collected or any individually identifiable student information can be released. Individual students, staff, or schools may not be identified in any research or evaluation product. No data collection is allowed on testing days. Be sure to consult the district testing schedule prior to submitting proposed dates.
In continued support of our PDS partnership with the School of Education at Baylor University, Waco ISD is proud to support the action research projects conducted in the classrooms of our Waco ISD campuses. Prior to starting your action research project, please submit the following pre-approval form. Research should only be started after receiving the completed notification of approval from Waco ISD.
For information on the status of a research request, please contact Waco ISD Chief of Staff Kyle DeBeer via email or at 254-755-9455.
