Mr. Scott Stulir

Mr. Stulir is a graduate of Western Illinois University, with degrees in Music Education, Percussion Performance, Composition, and Electronic Music Synthesis. He has worked across the country as a professional performing musician, audio engineer, composer, producer, and educator for the past thirty five years. Many of his students have gone on to perform with, teach, and compose for several National performing ensembles, High School, and College, groups. Scott's an energetic member of the Vic Firth and Sabian Percussion Education Teams, and an active recording artist/clinician.  Mr. Stulir has composed music for many different High School Percussion ensembles, WGI, BOA, and DCI groups throughout the USA.  He also continues to compose various musical selections for many National broadcast commercial, television, and film projects during his off time. Scott and his wife Kittie love the weather in Texas, and playing with their BoJack dog “Buddy”, and look forward to continuing the growth of the Waco High Band program in the future.

Mr. Tyler Sage

Mr. Sage is currently the director of the Waco High Jazz Katz, leads our Marching/Visual Program, and is also in charge of the Sub-Nonvarsity Band (5th Period).

Mr. Sage graduated in 2013 with a degree in Music Education - Instrumental Focus from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Furthermore, Mr. Sage was a member of the award-winning brassline of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps from 2010-12, receiving two Jim Ott awards for best brass, one John Brazale award for best visual performance, and a Silver medal at the 2012 DCI World Championships.

Outside of school work, Mr. Sage is currently a member of the brass staff for the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps and performs locally with several other directors in WISD as part of the #HashtagSwagBand. 

He and his wonderful wife, Mary, welcomed their daughter Victoria to the world this past May. They also have a pet corgi named Tuba. The Sage Family may not have started Texan, but they got here as soon as they could!

Ms. Michelle Nelson

Ms Nelson is the Woodwind Specialist for the Waco High Band Cluster and leads the Non-Varsity Band and Color Guard and assists with Varsity, SubNon-Varsity, and Jazz Bands. Ms. Nelson is a graduate of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX and earned her degree in Music Education in 2013. She is an active performer in the Central Texas area, performing with the Waco Jazz Orchestra, Waco Community Band, the Temple College Symphonic Band, and with several area band directors as part of the #HashtagSwagBand. Ms. Nelson is primarily a saxophonist but enjoys performing on all woodwind instruments.

Ms. Nelson started her career as Assistant Band Director at Lake Air Montessori Magnet and later transferred to G.W. Carver Middle School where she served as Director of Bands for two years. While she misses her students from the middle schools, Ms. Nelson looks forward to seeing their accomplishments in high school and beyond.

Outside of school Ms. Nelson loves to spend time with her blue & gold macaw Hank, her cat Pepper, and playing board games with friends.
