Ms. Daphanie Latchison

Ms. Latchison is a proud product of Waco ISD, from 1st through 12th grade.  She attended Viking Hills Elementary(now GWAHCA), Carver 6th Grade Center, Lake Air Middle School (now Lake Air Montessori) and ultimately graduated from Waco High School in May of 1996. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Baylor University in May 2002 as a mother with a toddler and due with her second son.  Shortly after graduating, she started her first year of teaching at Marlboro Elementary (now Ira Cross Elementary) in Killeen ISD (2002-03). Her family relocated to Baumholder, Germany and she served as a Reading Compensatory Education teacher at Ramstein Air Force Base in Ramstein, Germany (2004-05). After 1.5 years of teaching, her family relocated back to Waco due to deployment and she taught 4th and 5th grade at South Waco Elementary for 1.5 years. After deployment ended, they were stationed back in Fort Hood, Texas, where she returned to teaching in Killeen ISD at Willow Springs Elementary for 5 years.  During that time, Ms. Latchison had her first and only baby girl prematurely, but the baby was blessed to be very healthy and life kept moving fast forward.  She felt the need to further her education and earned her Master of Education in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University in August 2010.  The calling to administration was heavy on her spirit, so she started her administrative career in August 2012, as an assistant principal at her beloved alma mater, Waco High School for 4 years. Her love for leadership blossomed, thus landing her in the role that she serves now as the proud principal of Brazos High Credit Recovery, where she has been for 8 years and counting.  Aside from the role she plays in her community, the biggest accomplishment is being the proud mother to her 3 amazing children- Xzavier(24), Xamier(21), and Tasja(15). Her oldest is in his 2nd year of Physical Therapy School at Texas Tech studying to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy for either a NCAA or NFL team.  Her youngest son Xamier enjoys working with the City of Waco Parks and Recreation Department through Youth Services.  And her baby girl Tasja is a sophomore at University High School where she is a high achieving student that is a member of the volleyball, powerlifting team, and track and field team. In her spare time, Ms. Latchison loves to travel with her family, watch football at home, attend athletic events, go shopping, and explore cooking various Pinterest and TikTok recipes.

Principal's Message

  • Welcome Back Knights to the '23-'24 School Year!

Posted by Daphanie Latchison on 8/11/2023

    Greetings Knights Family,

Welcome Back Knights for the 2023-2024 school year!!!! It is an honor to serve as your principal for the 8th year (20th in education overall) and I must say while each year is a venture, every year has the same goal… building relationships that lead to graduating students.  I’m blessed to be surrounded by a village of special individuals here at Brazos High, who prioritize the WHOLE student by possessing the gift of peeling back layers to get to the root cause of the weight of baggage you carry when starting at our campus.  This ultimately leads to building productive relationships by transforming your view of “hardship” to that of strength and resiliency, thus coaching you to earn your high school diploma.  Every student’s story is different and that’s the beauty of seeing your faces every day that I am blessed to wake up because I know in due time, most will walk that stage and that’s the greatest day ever as a principal.  Last year, we graduated 79 students from summer to spring ceremonies and I anticipate that we will either hit that mark or beat it.  This year’s theme for our journey is Nipsey’s Hussle's famous 2011 album “The Marathon Continues.”  Each of you may be on different laps, but regardless of where you stand, the finish line is KNIGHTS GRADUATION.  So see you there and welcome back Knights!

    Love Always,

    Your Principal
