University High School’s Class of 2022 valedictorian and salutatorian

  • Salutatorian, Elizabeth Sanchez, graduated with over 30 college hours. She plans to attend Texas A&M University, majoring in Biology. Sanchez is an Academic Achiever, an AP Scholar, and a Dell Scholar. She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, AVID, and J-ROTC.

    “Elizabeth was a great student that always had a smile on her face and worked very hard to get where she is today.” Edison said. “I am very proud of all that she has done at University High School.”

    Valedictorian, Esau Perez, has earned an associate degree, with highest honors, as a student in the ACCELERATE program. In addition to his degree, he is an Academic Achiever and has earned the National Hispanic Scholar recognition in 2021 and 2022. Perez will attend Texas A&M University where he will major in Civil Engineering. He is the recipient of an A&M Century Scholarship and an A&M Regents Scholarship, along with various other scholarships and grants. Perez has participated in Band, Upward Bound, National Honor Society, and Cross-country. He has also served as an ambassador for the University High School Engineering Academy.

    “Esau is such a well-rounded student. He was involved in many things at University High School and found time to do them all and work a part-time job, “University High School Principal Dr. Ricky Edison said. Esau has always been dedicated to doing what he needed to do to be successful. I know a bright future awaits him.”

Waco High School’s Class of 2022 valedictorian and salutatorian

  • Salutatorian, Lily Coffman, is an AP Scholar with distinction, a National Merit Commended Scholar, Academic Achiever, and National Honor Society president.  She participated in mock trial, varsity tennis, classical piano, and the Gender and Sexualities Alliance. Lily plans to attend Brown University and will double major in history and math.

    “Lily shows that the difference between being ordinary and extraordinary is putting the "extra" into everything you do,” Saxenian said. “An award-winning History Fair participant and accomplished pianist, Lily has been dedicated to her success throughout high school.  Her future is very bright, she will always make sure her light is shining.”

    Valedictorian, Elisha Sriram, is a Dorothy Crippen Hurd, Educators Credit Union, Forever Young, and Waco Kiwanis Foundation scholarship recipient. He has been recognized as an AP Scholar, Superintendent Scholar, Academic Achiever, and earned recognition as the 2021 and 2022 Mock Trial Outstanding Advocate. A member of the National Honor Society and Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo Committee, he also served on the City of Waco Youth Council. Elisha plans to attend Texas A&M University where he will major in Business Honors.

    “Elisha is a self-motivated young man who has made the most of his high school experience. He has excelled in mock trial, tennis, and overall academic success,” Waco High School Principal Lisa Saxenian said. “He has taken advantage of all the opportunities that Waco High has to offer. Elisha exemplifies someone who knows his "why" in life.”
