Math 16 Years in Education

Mr. Bays

I am a native Wacoan. After college, I set my sights on living in the big city and climbing the corporate ladder. However, after doing that I realized that it was not for me. I moved back to Waco, earned my teaching certification and started teaching math. This is my 16th year in education, second at Brazos High School. Math is absolutely the best subject. There are many different avenues to get to the solution. Outside of school, you will find me riding my motorcycle, hiking Cameron Park or being with my two young men. My favorite thing about education is that everyday is unique and brings about its own set of successes and failures.

Ms. Cason

ELAR 9-12

  • 5th year at Brazos High School
  • 15th year teaching public school

After earning my bachelor’s degree in Photojournalism at UT Austin, I traveled to Ghana for 3 months. Upon my return, I worked a variety of photography jobs in Austin before moving to the Navajo reservation in Northern Arizona. There, I helped  a family with sheep herding and homestead chores on a remote part of the reservation. I wrote articles and photographed for the Navajo-Hopi Observer part time. Next, I worked full time as a photojournalist for the Sedona Red Rock News, Camp Verde Journal and Cottonwood Journal Extra in Central Arizona. I took another trip to Ghana before returning to Austin, Texas where I took a part-time teaching job at Travis County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. I taught English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education and GED. I enjoyed teaching and continued in adult education working for Avance Austin, Lifeworks and Austin Community College until I began working on my teacher certification in 2007. Since then, I have been a teacher of middle school math, special education, ESOL and high school English in Austin, Houston and Tucson, Arizona. I have lived in Waco for 5 years and love living here while teaching English at Brazos High School.

Special Education Inclusion 5 Years in Education

Mr. Miles

I am Oliver Miles, currently fulfilling the role of Case Manager/Inclusion Teacher at Brazos. My educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Tarleton State University, complemented by my certification as a life coach. Over the course of more than two decades, I have amassed valuable expertise by working with diverse individuals across various environments, including correctional facilities, group homes, and special education settings.

These diverse experiences have uniquely equipped me to undertake the responsibility of aiding individuals in establishing meaningful goals for their journey towards success. Through these experiences, I've gained a profound understanding of the impact that cultivating relationships has on effectively reaching and teaching students. Beyond my professional identity, I also embrace roles as a dedicated husband, father, brother, son, and nephew, all while being deeply rooted in the vibrant community of Waco.

My primary commitment revolves around serving the welfare of students and the community at large. My favorite thing about education is seeing a student change their I can't to I can.

Mrs. Emerson

Hello Knights family!
My name is Jennifer Emerson and I am thrilled to be joining you all this fall. I am moving to Waco with my husband and our three kids from Charleston South Carolina where I have been teaching and coaching at my hometown high school for the past 10 years. During my time in Charleston I enjoyed spending time on the water, participating in local road races, trying new restaurants, visiting state and national parks with my family, but my passion is the work I get to do with students. As a science teacher, I love seeing my students have their ‘aha’ moments when an idea finally clicks; whether it’s photosynthesis or punnet squares, it’s always exciting to see them succeed! I can’t wait to meet you this fall and start working towards a great school year :)
