Dr. Amy Mathews-Perez

I am proud to be the Principal at Hillcrest PDS - Waco ISD's first Professional Development School!  As a PDS, we collaborate with Baylor University in developing new teachers through instruction, guidance and teaching experiences.

I am originally from Waco and a proud product of Waco ISD, having attended Parkdale Elementary, R.L. Smith, Tennyson Middle School and Jefferson Moore High School.  I have previously worked in Waco ISD as a teacher at Lake Air Middle School, as a Speech Pathologist and as a Special Education Specialist.

I obtained my Bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas, my Master's degree from Baylor University and my Doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.

The vast majority of my more than 25 year-long professional career has been in public other words: I love school!  I enjoy playing golf, being outdoors, learning new things and I consider myself an optimist.  Also, I collect Dr. Seuss items and I believe in continuous improvement.

I am thrilled to be working with and for the amazing staff and students of Hillcrest PDS.

  • Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!

I hope your summer was fun and wonderful!  We have quite a few changes in staff at HPDS this year, but we are ALL super excited for the upcoming school year. Although some of our staff have changed, many things have NOT changed:

    Our students are AWESOME!

    Our school is BEAUTIFUL!

Our staff are READY to teach!

We are getting a NEW PLAYGROUND this fall to replace the wooden playscape! (hopefully before Thanksgiving break)

"Meet the Teacher" is August 16 from 4:00-6:00 - which is when students will find out who their teacher is!  We recommend that you bring your child's school supplies at this time.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 21. Parents can walk their child/children to class on the first day of school. On the second day of school parents are not allowed beyond the "Hugs & Kisses" zone. Also, as we work to get all students acclimated to the school schedule and activities, we will not allow visitors for lunch for the first two weeks of school.

Please be sure to follow us on Facebook and save our campus website as a "favorite" so that you can stay informed of all campus events and announcements.

    Wishing you well,

    Dr. Perez
