Scholarship Information

Every day you need to spend some time googling the internet of scholarships. Make a goal of applying for 40 scholarships during your senior year. There are scholarships out there; you just have to look.

Try these websites:
http://www.scholarshipexperts.com
http://www.finaid.org/scholarship
http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_ss/welcome.jsp
http://www.scholarships.com

Please never pay anyone to search for a scholarship or financial aid for you. I try to check all the websites to be sure that they are free but I might goof on one. If I do, please let me know.

Again thanks for being the leader of the Pride. I know that you will continue to lead the Pride in the best direction.

Gates Millennium Scholarship
From the Desk of Ms. Beck

The deadline for this scholarship is January 12, 2010.

Applications for the Gates Millennium Scholarship are now available at www.gmsp.org. Applications may be either electronic or paper. The Gates scholarships are available to minority students who are eligible for the Pell Grant.

This application process is very lengthy and involved but this is a really, really big scholarship (like a full ride).

In order to be eligible for the Pell Grant, a student and his/her parent(s) must complete the FAFSA (FREE Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA for 2010-2011 will not be available until after January 1, 2010. To see if a student is eligible for the Pell Grant, complete the FAFSA4caster available at www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov.

Every year I feel compelled to warn students and parents about services and individuals that charge students/parents for scholarship/financial aid searches.

Please do not pay anyone or any service for scholarship/financial searches. Most services are FREE. Also, do NOT pay anyone for completing the FAFSA (FREE Application for Federal Student Aid). The website for the FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov; not www.fafsa.com.

Fafsa.com is a website that charges to complete the FAFSA.

WHS and the Waco Foundation will provide assistance in completing the FAFSA.
