First Annual Waco High Lion Football Lift A Thon

Good Morning Loyal Waco High Supporters!

I just wanted you all to be in the know about our First Annual Waco High Lion Football Lift A Thon! Lift A Thon is a way for our students to show off their hard work before the actual competition of another season all while raising funds to help increase our strength for another season. We are trying to raise in excess of $40,000 over the course of the next couple of years, so that we might improve our weightroom and the equipment therein. Our weightroom is shared among multiple sports including boy's soccer and boy's basketball, and it is available for other's use as we work around season schedules. With all of the use it gets, we need improvements in our weight rack and platforms, new machinery for multiple strength uses, and training equipment for rehabilitation and maintenance workouts. Some of the items we would like to purchase include lifting platforms and leg drive machines which would no doubt improve the look of our facitlity, but are needed to help facilitate our strength gains and injury prevention in all sports.

Please consider joining us March 3rd at 7pm in the competition gym here at Waco High for the show off bench press presentation of our athletes as they would love to see you and have your support for their efforts and team. Thank you for all you do for us and for your commitment and dedication!

Lion Pride!

Rising Heroes

In 1997 a unique partnership was formed between Time Warner Cable, Fox Sports Southwest and Baylor University Athletics. The Hometown Hero award was created to honor the “unsung heroes” in our communities who have exhibited extraordinary community service. These special people have pledged to support and drive the efforts in their communities to help future generations excel in today’s world.

In 2006, a new facet, Rising Heroes, was added to the program. Rising Heroes, honors local high school students who exhibit exemplary servant leadership, will receive the Johnny and Tricia Mankin Scholarship for Volunteerism in commemoration of their efforts and leadership.

Waco High "LION PRIDE" Band Makes History

On Saturday (10/17) the Waco High "LION PRIDE" Band competed in the UIL REGION 8 Marching contest held at WISD stadium. The band scored straight division 1 ratings from all three judges. This has only happened two other times in the last 25 years of competition, with 1984 and 1994 being the other years.

The "LION PRIDE" band now moves on to area D competition next weekend in Buda TX to face off against the top five 4A schools, from four other regions, that also received division one ratings at their regional contests. At area, the top four to five of these bands that score the highest will advance to the Texas State 4A championship competition in SanAntonio TX.

Despite the inclimate weather, the flu, and the UIL grade check system, the band was able to adapt and overcome these challenges and secure a well deserved win. Please help us congratulate any of these students you may know this week, and cheer them on to the next level of competition as they represent Waco High throughout the state of Texas.

Thank you for all of your support this season.

WHS Director of Bands
