The Waco Independent School District recently received eight Gold Star awards and three Best of Category awards for excellence in school communications by the Texas School Public Relations Association. The awards were announced at the TSPRA annual conference in Austin on February 22.
Each year TSPRA recognizes school communicators for outstanding work in both print and electronic media. This year, more than 1,150 entries were received. Entries are judged by public relations, marketing, video production and graphics professionals using a standard set of evaluation criteria based on industry standards.
Earning Gold Star and Best of Category awards for their work were Jesse Botello, educational television specialist, Mary Senter, publications specialist, Traci Marlin, community resource coordinator and Dale Caffey, public information officer.
TSPRA, based in Austin, is a professional organization with more than 900 members who are dedicated to improving public education in Texas by promoting effective public relations practices, providing professional development for its members, and improving communication between Texans and their public schools.
