Welcome to Mountainview. The 2009-2010 school year promises to be very exciting with a new look to the school, a new program, and the same high quality teaching that has earned Mountainview the reputation as one of the area's top elementary schools. Combine all of the above with very involved parents and you have the elements students need for success.

This will be our second year to implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP) offered by International Baccalaureate. At a glance, the PYP focuses on total growth of students. According to the International Baccalaureate Organization, the program is devoted to "touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development." Designed for children age 3 to 12, the program links all subject areas to real world examples thus making them more relevant to the student.

Our focus will be on global learning. to accentuate the global perspective, murals now grace the foyers of each grade level building. Designed and painted by a local artist Anthony Morgan, the murals represent the different continents and include aspects such as the animals of the region and landmark buildings. Baylor international students will help bring the study of the continents to life. The PYP also allows us to offer Spanish and art to all students.

Our teachers have devoted time this summer to PYP training. They are eager to implement what they have learned. Returning students and parents will notice new faces. We welcome Mr. DeAvla, Ms. Mejia and Mrs. Reneau to Pre-K, Mrs. Echelbarger to third grade and Mrs. Locke as our music and ESL teacher.

More information on the PYP is available at www.ibo.org. Should you have any special questions or concerns please call 772-2520 to set up an appointment. My door is always open. We look forward to a wonderful year.
