Grow Your Own: Paraprofessional to Teacher Program

All current full-time paraprofessional employees are invited to learn about the Paraprofessional to Teacher Program offered by Waco ISD.

Representatives from Waco ISD Human Resources, McLennan Community College and Tarleton State University will be on hand to present basic information and answer any questions including:

  • Grow Your Own Guidelines
  • Degree Plans available through MCC and Tarleton State University
  • Financial Aid
  • Alternative Certification Program for those who have already obtained a four-year degree or higher

The Grow Your Own Program is available for any full-time paraprofessional to apply for tuition assistance for classes taken as part of an approved degree plan to become a certified teacher.  In lieu of tuition assistance for classes during evening hours, a paraprofessional may request release time to attend one course per semester during normal working hour without reduction in pay (certain restrictions apply). The program does not currently offer tuition reimbursement for paraprofessionals with a four-year degree (or higher) to attend classes for an alternative certification program.
