Rick Rapson from Richard Karr Motors talks to Waco High seniors about the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program.

Seniors informed about huge opportunity

There are three things in life that are absolute: death, taxes, and the rising cost of college tuition. So when representatives from one of Waco High’s Adopt-a-School partner’s visited the school to share information about a particular college scholarship, students were eager to listen.

Rick Rapson and Adam Schwartz from Richard Karr Motors recently met with students to give them information about the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. The program will reward 1,100 students with scholarships:  up to $25,000 per year for 100 first-time freshman or existing college students, renewable up to four years and one additional year for those entering a qualified five-year engineering program; and $2,000 one-time awards for an additional 1,000 students.

Student applicants must have good grades, but also must be leaders in their school, participate in school and community activities, demonstrate a capacity for volunteer work and prove themselves to be college-bound and community-minded. The majority of the scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in engineering or technology fields. Special consideration will be given to the following applicants: first-generation college, female, minority, military veteran or a dependent of military personnel.
