Waco ISD to close nine campuses this year
Posted on 02/24/2012
Anticipating an additional $3.4 million loss in state funding, the Waco ISD Board of Trustees on February 23 voted to close nine campuses and make more efficient use of facilities rather than cutting academic programs and jobs.

Current buildings that will close following the 2011-2012 school year include: Viking Hills Elementary, Sul Ross Elementary, Meadowbrook Elementary, North Waco Elementary, Lake Waco Montessori, Brazos Middle, University Middle, Waco Alternative School and STARS High School.

A new consolidated middle school will open on the current A.J. Moore campus and high school students enrolled in the academies at A.J. Moore will be relocated to University High School.

The board's vote came after almost six months of discussion and public input. In March, the board will redraw attendance zones.
