Forty-one students earn trip to Austin

Get the charter bus ready! Forty-one students representing five Waco ISD campuses have earned a trip to Texas History Day blowing away the competition at the Heart of Texas Regional History Fair at Baylor University on February 10. This number of statebound history buffs breaks the old record of 34 set in 2009.

History fair competitors qualify for the state meet by placing first or second at the ...
regional fair. The categories include individual exhibit, group exhibit, individual performance, group performance, individual documentary, group documentary, individual website, group website and historical paper.

Having the most first-, second-, and third-place finishers at the regional fair resulted in a sweepstakes award for Waco High teachers Courtney Copas, Kenneth Heller, Neil Shanks and Lyssa Davoust. Copas also was awarded the Calvin B. Smith Outstanding Teacher Award. Waco ISD students also dominated when it came to the special awards.

The tables below list the state qualifiers and special award winners.
