Hall of Fame game

The Waco Independent School District Athletic Department will host the “Hall of Fame Game” on Friday, November 10, 2017 when the University High Trojans meet the Waco High Lions on the gridiron. The football game, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., will also serve as the induction ceremony for the Waco ISD Athletics Hall of Fame.

This year, the three newest members to be inducted into the WISD Athletic Hall of Fame include Charles "Charlie" Horton, Vince Carter, and Marcus Walker.

The Waco ISD Athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place on the field at halftime during the Waco High vs. University High football game.

Hall of Fame class of 2000 member Walter Abercrombie will be in attendance and recognized at the conclusion of the 1st quarter. Walter is a graduate of the University High School class of 1978.

Prior to the game, a reception will be held for the inductees, their families, and members of the Waco ISD Athletic Hall of Fame. The reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the WISD Stadium Conference Room, located at the north end zone complex of the athletic facility.

Other highlights of the evening will include a performance by the Waco ISD middle school bands prior to kickoff. At halftime there will be an introduction of members of the Athletic Hall of Fame at midfield.

At the end of the third-quarter, fifth-grade students, each representing a Waco ISD elementary school, will race in a 50-yard relay race. The annual race, dubbed the “Fastest Fifth-Grader,” is to promote school and team spirit at an early age. The winning fifth-grade boy and girl will earn a pizza and cupcake party for his or her entire grade.

And of course there is the game itself, where the Lions and Trojans will compete for bragging rights as the Cross Town Champs, at least until next year, when we do it all again.

We hope to see you all at the game and thank the football teams, the bands, the coaches, the cheerleaders, the pep squads, the JROTC cadets, the concession folks and of course the fans for another great season of Texas High School Football.
