Alta Vista Elementary Kicks Off Mentor Program

Alta Vista Elementary kicked off their mentor program for the 2017-2018 school year on Thursday, September 28th.

Karmen Logan, principal at Alta Vista, welcomed the mentors back for another fantastic school year and spoke to the group about 'the power of one'. “Each mentor has the power to make a difference in the lives of Alta Vista students,” Logan said.

The mentors will meet with their mentees once a week for 30 to 45 minutes. During that time, the mentors will provide academic assistance, read books, play a board game or create a craft project with their student.

Once the instructional portion of the meeting concluded, the students were brought in to meet or reunite with their mentor. Thankfully, a number of returning mentors were able to continue their volunteer time at Alta Vista. Watching the students’ faces light up when they saw their mentor was proof of how important this program is. Waco ISD is truly grateful for the numerous mentors across all campuses that take the time out of their busy schedule and find value in fostering a relationship with Waco ISD’s students.
