Mrs. Gonzales, a 6th grade social studies teacher at Tennyson Middle School, initially contacted Lowe’s Home Improvement Store asking if they would be willing to donate some new carpet for her classroom.  After a visit from Lowe’s Store Managers, Gary Moss and Rod Serrano, they felt as if they could provide Mrs. Gonzales with much more than just carpet.  She knew that her classroom was going to receive a makeover, however the final transformation was a complete surprise.

The classroom makeover was made possible through the Lowe’s Heroes program.  The program began in their stores over 10 years ago, and encourages store employees to join together to adopt a volunteer project and make a difference in their community.  The mission of the program is to transform lives one community at a time.  The Lowe’s Heroes program certainly followed through with their mission upon the completion of Mrs. Gonzales’s classroom transformation.

It took the crew from Lowe’s about a week to complete the project, and they touched every surface in her classroom.  Mrs. Gonzales’s room received everything from brand new beautiful wood floors, to freshly painted walls, and updated light fixtures.  The Lowe’s team also built her a custom desk and storage cabinets along with collapsible student tables that are easily moved so that she can reconfigure her classroom effortlessly.   Lowe’s attention to detail was nothing short of amazing, right down to brand new classroom décor on the walls.

Not only will Mrs. Gonzales enjoy her brand new classroom for many school years to come, but the students at Tennyson Middle School will benefit from having a beautiful, new learning environment.

Thank you to Lowe’s, a Waco ISD District Adopt-a-School Partner, and the Lowe’s Heroes program for all of their time, dedication, and financial support for making this possible for Mrs. Gonzales and Tennyson Middle School!
