Family Fest: smiling girl

To help students start the new school year healthy, energetic and ready for learning, Waco Independent School District is hosting the sixth-annual Waco ISD Back to School Family Fest on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. until noon, for all Waco ISD students and their families.

This free event will be held in two locations:  Waco High School, located at 2020 N. 42nd Street, and University High School, located at 3201 S. New Road. (click links for maps to schools)

The following campuses should attend Family Fest at University High School: Alta Vista Elementary, Bell's Hill Elementary, Cesar Chavez Middle, Kendrick Elementary and South Waco Elementary.

The following campuses should attend Family Fest at Waco High School: Brazos High Credit Recovery, Brook Avenue Elementary, Cedar Ridge Elementary, Crestview Elementary, Dean Highland Elementary, G.W. Carver Middle, J.H. Hines Elementary, Indian Spring Middle, Mountainview Elementary, Parkdale PDS Elementary, Provident Heights Elementary, Tennyson Middle/ATLAS and West Avenue Elementary.

Lake Air Montessori Magnet and Hillcrest PDS Elementary will be represented at both high schools.

Family Fest will give parents the opportunity to register their student(s) for the 2017-2018 school year if they haven’t already done so. Registered Waco ISD students can receive a voucher for a free backpack with school supplies to be redeemed at Family Fest while supplies last. Vouchers are only available at the designated feeder campus booths. Families must attend the high school to which they are zoned in order to register and receive the vouchers.

Free food and entertainment will also be offered for attendees.  In addition, free health screenings and low cost immunizations will be available. Many local organizations and businesses will be in attendance at both locations. They will offer games, freebies and information about their products and services.

Bus transportation will be provided to and from all elementary and middle school campuses, as well as the former North Waco campus. The bus schedule, which includes pick-up and drop-off times, can be found on the Family Fest homepage.

The Waco ISD Back to School Family Fest aims to build relationships with families and boost parent involvement, while providing access to important education, health and community resources.
