Lake Air's softball team scored early and often in a big win in the first round of the Little League Regional Tournament Thursday afternoon.

The select team of middle schoolers squared off against New Mexico and scored 10 runs in the first inning to take control in a 12-0 win that was called after four innings.

Danielle Ramirez, a student at Tennyson Middle School, pitched a two-hitter for the Waco team.  Makayla Ramos, a student at Lake Air Montessori, helped offensively with a two run double in the fourth inning to cap the scoring.  Seven Waco ISD students play for David Rodriguez's all-star team.

Lake Air is one of two teams from Texas, and six teams overall vying for a trip to the Little League World Series for softball.

Their next game in the winner's bracket is Friday at 2 p.m. against Arkansas.
