On May 22, 2017, WISD Superintendent Dr Bonny Cain received notification that the AJ Moore Academies at UHS have been designated as a T STEM Academy,

The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Initiative provides a foundational approach to empower teachers, inspire students, and advance the studies in these four fields. The public-private initiative of academies, professional development centers and networks is designed to improve instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects at secondary schools.

The goal is to identify strategies that deliver:
~~Enhanced instruction and improved delivery of curriculum
~~Culture that supports individualized learning across students, teachers, district leadership, parents, and/or partners
~~Improved system structure and policy to allow for full implementation of blended learning practices

Texas is home to 121 T-STEM Schools, including 97 T-STEM Academies and 24 blended Early College High School/T-STEM Academies serving more than 84,000 students across the state.
