Tuesday February 7 proved to be an important day for the University High Trojans Varsity Boys Basketball team as they secured a District Champion title with a win against the Waco High Lions.
To help accommodate the expected larger than normal crowds, the district varsity basketball games between Waco High and University High were moved to the McLennan Community College campus athletic facility. Waco ISD thanks MCC for their generous help. UHS Coach Rodney Smith stated that the UHS crowd was great and the team responded with a lot of class. When asked who was the game's MVP, he said "The UHS Crowd".
At the third quarter the Trojans lead the Lions 32-25. A narrow margin and by no means was this game over.
The Trojan cheerleaders did their part too as the Trojan boys defeated the Lions with a 68-50 win, setting their standing as 2017 District Champs.
Stats show Gibson scored 18 points, Hailey scored 21 and Washington got 11 points with 11 rebounds and 7 blocks.
There are two games remaining in the regular season and we asked Coach Smith what his thoughts were concerning those games. "The road ahead is tough. We're going to take it one game at a time".
