The Education Foundation's H-E-B Celebrity Cook Off Committee, joined by some Waco ISD administrators, met on Tuesday to judge the Reach for the Stars Art Contest. There were sixty-six entries from fifteen campuses. The artwork was divided by grade level, and judged blindly, so that the names of schools and students were not displayed. The only information the judges could see was the grade and title.
The quality of the work was phenomenal! The thoughtfulness that went into the work, from the youngest to the most advanced students, was amazing. The twenty people who served as judges walked into the room not knowing what to expect, and left truly inspired by the students' work.
Everyone who participated (66 student artists) will receive a certificate and passes to the planetarium.
The top three artists also received a ribbon (1st, 2nd, 3rd place), a candy jar and a Visa Gift Card ($100 for 1st, $50 for 2nd and $25 for 3rd place). They were guests of Thursday's School Board meeting where they received their special awards. You can watch the meeting on WISD-TV or online here (5min, 30sec mark).
