Leave and Absences

Waco ISD offers employees paid and unpaid leaves of absence in times of personal need. Employees who have personal needs that will required extended leaves of absence should contact the Human Resources Department for counseling about leave options, continuation of benefits and communicating with the district. Human Resources must receive 30 days notice for a foreseeable leave or as soon as practicable in unforeseen circumstances.

Employees who have been employed by the district for at least 12 months and worked 1,250 hours during the previous 12 month period shall be entitled to a total of 12 work weeks of leave, without loss of any employment benefit accrued prior to the beginning of the leave, during any 12 month period for the birth, adoption, or foster placement of a child: to care for a spouse, parent, or child with a serious health condition or an employee's serious health condition.

Any full-time employee whose position requires certification from the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) is eligible for temporary disability leave.

Temporary Disability Leave Request [pdf]

Eligible employees  with a spouse, son, daughter, or parent on active military duty and deployed to a foreign country may use their 12-week leave entitlement to address certain qualifying exigencies. Qualifying exigencies may include attending certain military events,  arranging for alternative childcare, addressing certain financial and legal arrangements, attending counseling sessions, and attending post-deployment reintegration briefings.
