Mr. Salazar goes to Washington
Diego Salazar is a senior criminal justice student at University High, and he’s had a very busy summer. Representing the CJ program at UHS, as well as his campus and Waco ISD, Salazar joined students from across the nation at conferences in New York and Washington, D.C. and was the only student representative from Texas.
The Washington conference, held over Spring Break, focused on politics and American youth, providing a forum for 20 young men and women to speak on behalf of their respective states. One of the highlights of that event for Salazar was the chance to meet Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Salazar also had the opportunity to tour the Supreme Court, the halls of Congress and the city itself.
Diego’s great experience in D.C. opened the doors to a second conference, this one in New York City in August, where attendees talked about how they can make a difference and encourage others to do the same.
Salazar made such an impression at the conferences, he’s now been offered an internship with the State Department in Washington D.C. He hopes to one day become a diplomat for the United States and facilitate change globally.
Here’s our conversation with Diego Salazar, and you can watch the conversation on WISD-TV, Channel 17 on Time Warner Cable and Grande, beginning September 24.
