Seniors from the Academies of Engineering and Automotive Technology at University High School traveled to Ennis, Texas and the Texas Motorplex to witness 10,000 horsepower of top-fuel drag racing on Friday October 16th.
The event was sponsored by the US Army Y.E.S. (Youth and Education Services) program and afforded students the opportunity to see all races, get into the pit area, and meet top-fuel drag racers including Tony Shumacher, who races for team U.S. ARMY.
The focus of the senior years in a NAF academy primarily concentrate on career preparation and college and career readiness. In addition to learning how they can enter into STEM careers through the military or college, the event includes a 30 minute presentation on how students can participate in a non-traditional career such as racing.
The students witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime event and returned tired and excited. If you know of any seniors from UHS in the academies of Engineering or Auto Tech, have them share with you what they saw.
