At the middle and high schools in Waco Independent School District, students are given the option of enrolling in Advanced Placement or Pre-Advanced Placement courses. These courses, which either augment the TEKS or build on the skills dictated by the College Board through the Acorn curriculum, offer students a more rigorous learning experience. Advanced Placement courses allow students the ability to test in May for college credit, in addition to high school credit.
To help teachers to plan the correct instruction for these classes and understand what the desired end result is (to ensure the highest level of passing on the Advanced Placement examinations), the Office of Advanced Academic Services has developed curriculum alignment publications for the core areas and world languages. These booklets will provide teachers with guidance with planning, differentiating, adding depth and complexity to their lessons, as well as recognizing important skills that must be taught prior to students entering the Advanced Placement classrooms.
Any questions about these documents should be directed to the Office of Advanced Academic Services. We would like to thank Austin ISD on their help in the construction of these texts.
