To assure that all Waco ISD graduates obtain the skills, understanding and behaviors necessary for good citizenship, successful transition to work or college and lifelong learning.
Services and Responsibilities
The Student Services Department provides health services, tracks attendance and truancy, and oversees dropout prevention and recovery programs, student data and records, afterschool programs, student transportation, and the Suspend Kids to School Program.
The mission is to provide comprehensive programming and technical assistance in the areas of alternative education, accelerated instruction, discipline, and attendance to campus and assist/facilitate elementary campus needs.
Student Health Services
Waco ISD employs Registered Nurses and Licensed Vocational Nurses to meet the health care needs of the students. Nurse employees provide quality and preventative health care to all students. Nurses perform basic first aid, track immunization requirements, dispense medication to students and conduct vision, hearing and spinal screenings. Nurses also provide classroom instruction on hygiene and disease. The Family Practice Center contracts with the district to serve students, their families and the community at a school-based health clinic located at Bell's Hill Elementary. The school-based clinic provides both treatment and preventative care.
Attendance, Truancy, Dropout Prevention & Recovery
Oversees the districts efforts to increase student attendance, insures adherence to state and local laws and policy governing compulsory attendance, and address all factors related to students dropping out of school. Attendance Court Liaisons are responsible for representing the district in all court matters related to attendance and truancy. Parent Campus Liaisons are responsible for communicating with parents and students regarding school absences, making home visits related to student absences, and investigating cases of chronic absence and truancy.
Waco ISD, in collaboration with community organizations, provides afterschool services on all WISD campuses. Afterschool provide students with a safe place and an opportunity to continue learning beyond the regular school day through hands-on activities. Students in the afterschool programs receive homework help as well as participate in a variety of enrichment activities such as sports, arts and crafts, and STEM.
The PEIMS Department is committed to assisting WISD campuses with training and support in the use of the SIS software. Our goal is to maximize district funds by continually improving the integrity of the data submitted to the Texas Education Agency.
Student Transportation Services
Infofinder is a transportation site for parents. It allows parents to identify which schools are assigned to any given address. This site will also show you bus information to include the bus number, where the stops are located, and what time the bus will pick up in the morning as well as drop off in the afternoon.

Student records are kept for all previous WISD students. Any student who is in need of an official or unofficial transcript for colleges or employment can request a paper copy from the clerk at the administration building.
Suspend Kids to School Initiative
The purpose of the project is to test a model for reducing the numbers of students that are issued citations at school for what could be otherwise prevented with counseling and intervention, limiting the overall numbers of school referrals to juvenile court, complementing remedial measures that keep students engaged and on the home campus, and providing sufficient training for school resource officers, district staff especially teachers, judges, and probation officers.
