Waco ISD and the Waco Business League are proud recipients of the 2013 Virginia DuPuy Partnership Excellence Award. The honor was presented Wednesday, November 13, to kick off the sixth annual Greater Waco Community Education Summit. The two entities received the award for their work in establishing the Greater Waco Advanced Manufacturing Academy. The school teaches 21st century welding, a skill that is in high demand in the Waco workforce.
More than 30 business partners in the Waco area participate in GWAMA including the major industrial employers. The Academy is currently serving students from China Spring, Clifton, La Vega, Lorena, McGregor, Methodist Children's Home, Riesel and Robinson. Soon more than 40 school districts in the region will be invited to take advantage of the program.
Former Waco Business League President Charlie Olson and Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain accepted the award on behalf of the two organizations.
