Kayla Cordova's Success Story

Kayla Cordova, a former Lake Waco Montessori graduate, is now working on her third semester of basic studies at McLennan Community College. Cordova, whose grandmother, Evelinda Morales, is the parent representative on the Lake Air Montessori campus LPAC Committee, graduated from Premiere High School in 2012.

At MCC Cordova’s goal is to achieve her associate’s degree in Nursing.  She recently became a member of the Pi Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honors society for two year colleges.  After graduating from MCC, she hopes to transfer to St. David’s School of Nursing to earn a master’s degree and one day became a pediatric or family nurse practitioner.

Cordova writes about her Montessori education, saying,  “I attended Doris Miller/Lake Waco Montessori Magnet schools all the way from Pre-K3 until my graduating year in 2008.  I loved all the amazing teachers I had at Lake Waco. Every single one of them has had a positive impact on me. They are the reason I keep pushing myself to be the best I know I can become. I also met many of my friends at Lake Waco who taught me how to be caring, respectful and kind to others.   I learned how to work well with people from various backgrounds."

“Over the course of my years at Lake Waco Montessori,” Cordova continues,  “I learned to be always persistent with all that I do.  My advice to others is that as long as you keep trying, nothing can stop you, which is a key factor in my life journey today. Thank you, Montessori teachers, for all your hard work and the dedication you put into each and every student!”

Congratulations on your collegiate success, Miss Cordova!  You are indeed a role model for all Montessori students and especially our English Language Learner (ELL)students.  Waco I.S.D. wishes you the best as you pursue your dreams!
