One of the most exciting experiences has been the arrival of our students from China and Tunisia. One of the most exciting experiences has been the arrival of our students from China and Tunisia. Baylor University invited professors from these two countries to be visiting professors, and South Waco Elementary was chosen to be the school for their children. Ang Li, Mohamed Atia, Iliab Atia, and Saba Atia joined us, and we enjoy learning from them about their countries and customs.

While here in the U.S., the children have worked hard to learn English. Ang Li and Mohamed are both 4th grade students in Teacher of the Year, Lisa Plemons’ classroom. They have used iPads and several applications on those iPads to translate and assist them in learning.

We have all learned that a smile is still a smile, regardless of the languages we speak!

English language arts and social studies have provided new learning opportunities, and both boys excel in mathematics. In fact, Ang Li is a member of the Number Sense team for UIL. He will have to use his iPad translator for the directions, and he is excited about participating.
