LEAD students see state lawmakers in action

LEAD_in_Austin A group of 11th- and 12th-grade students who participate in the LEAD program were recently treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the State Capitol. The VIP tour included a visit to the floor of the House of Representatives, a look at the underground vault and a view from the balcony overlooking downtown Austin. The tour was led by Russell Devorsky, a longtime director for House District 57.

The students were given a warm welcome by Texas House Representative Charles "Doc" Anderson of Waco. Students were delighted with the greeting they received from Anderson and overwhelmed by his willingness to answer questions about his role as a state legislator.

The LEAD program is a business and education partnership that is being sponsored by the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce to develop relationships between business leader and students for the purpose of educational success. LEAD exposes students to the real world of business and government. Business professionals are assigned to mentor LEAD students based on the student's aspirations.
