- Approved minutes from the December 20, 2007 regular board meeting.
- Approved 2007-2008 budget amendments:
- National School Breakfast and Lunch Fund will increase by $2,266.85 due to an auto accident that damaged a district vehicle. The corresponding increase in expenditures in the amount of $2,266.85 will be used for repairs to the vehicle.
- General fund will reallocate $89,170.37 from instruction to staff development and maintenance.
- Sul Ross Elementary will reallocate $3,000 from instruction to staff development.
- J.H. Hines Elementary will reallocate $60.46 from instruction to security.
- Waco High will reallocate $379 from instruction to staff development.
- North Waco Elementary will reallocate $220 from school leadership to staff development.
- Waco High will reallocate $1,400 from instruction and extracurricular to security.
- State and federal programs will reallocate $2,867.72 from instruction and school leadership to school leadership and social work.
- University Middle will reallocate $15,000 from maintenance to instruction and school leadership.
- Fine arts department will reallocate $1,500 from extracurricular to instruction.
- Mountainview Elementary will reallocate $200 from instruction to social work.
- Brazos Middle will reallocate $1,230.52 from instruction to school leadership and maintenance.
- Approved bid renewal for an elevator maintenance services contract with Schindler Elevator Company for one additional year, until January 31, 2009.
- Approved the designation of property at 829 LaSalle as surplus, and approved the sale of the same property.
- Postponed the decision to designate property on North Fourth Street as surplus.
- Approved the designation of eight school buses as surplus, and approved the sale of these busses to other school districts at negotiated prices.
- Approved the designation of a fleet of school bus video recorders as surplus, and approved the sale of these video recorders to other school districts at negotiated prices.
- Approved the 2006-2007 external audit report for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2007 as presented by John Pechacek, CPA.
- Approved the early resignation proposal, moving the teacher resignation date to March 1 and offering classroom teachers a bonus incentive pay of $50 per day for unused sick leave for up to 20 days.
- Approved the sale of a tract of land at Ninth Street and LaSalle Avenue to Baylor University for $2,500.
Monthly Financial Report: As of December 31, 2007, the financial report showed $36,744,202 in revenue and $38,833,033 in expenditures with expenditures exceeding revenue by $2,088,831.
Development Report: Kay Metz, director of development and community partnerships, reported on the following gifts:
- Meadowbrook Elementary received 25 bicycles and helmets valued at $3,000 from Academy Sports to be used as perfect attendance awards for students.
- The district received a $70,824 grant from the Texas Education Agency for the "Texas Fitness Now" program. The funds will be used for the following schools: Alta Vista Montessori, Brazos Middle, G.W. Carver Academy, Cesar Chavez Middle, G.W. Wiley Middle and University Middle.
- The gift and grant report for the third quarter for the months of October, November and December was reported at $169,123.26. The total in gifts and grants raised during the calendar year 2007 was $12,171,044.60.
Superintendent's Report: Dr. Roland Hernandez, superintendent of schools,
asked the audience to watch for weather updates in case of school closings Friday morning. Notices regarding the closing of school or delay of start of school due to bad weather on Friday will be posted on First Class, on the Waco ISD website, on channel 17 and made available to local media.

Facilities Master Plan Development
Sheryl Davis, assistant superintendent for business and support services, and Kerri Ranney, director of the Austin office of PBK, Inc. presented an update on the progress in developing the district's five-year facilities master plan.

Pledge of Allegiance
Cesar Chavez Middle students Brittany Sisneros, eighth-grade, and Juan Quintana, eighth-grade, led the pledge of allegiance. Alfredo Loredo is the principal.
Lake Waco Montessori Students Trip to New York City
Robin McDurham, assistant principal of Lake Waco Montessori Magnet, introduced Lake Waco Montessori Middle Teacher Adam Lackey. Mr. Lackey introduced six students who recently traveled to New York on an immersion trip. The students saw many famous attractions and also attended a conference at the United Nations in New York. The students raised money to go on the trip, which cost approximately $12,000 per student. The students presented each Waco ISD Board member with a book.
University High Cheerleaders
Nolan Correa, principal of University High introduced Dede Moore, sponsor for the University High cheerleading squad. The squad won first-place in the state competition in Grapevine and third place in the national competition held in Dallas. Ms. Moore thanked LULAC for a donation for cheerleader training; she thanked Principal Correa for his support; Liz Harris, Waco ISD's director of student services; and parents of the program. Ms. Moore introduced the members of the team: Andrea Olvera, Sidney Henderson, Ashane' Stewart, Andriea Tovar,
Monica Guerrero, Ernestine Loredo, Felecia Resendez, Esterleane Landrum, Desiree Ramirez, Monique Casarez, Crystal Roque and Adrienne Fisher.
Distinguished Alumni 2008
Kay Metz, director of development and community partnerships introduced Ann Harder, vice chairman of the Waco ISD Education Foundation. Mrs. Harder presented the list of 2008 distinguished alumni who will be honored at a banquet on Saturday, February 9, 2008. The honorees include: A.W. (Bill) Bailey, Jr., Kimberly Allen Dang, Thomas Rufus McClellan, Jean Lewis McReynolds, Jacquelin S. Neatherlin, Laurie Gene Pitman, Ernestine S. Sapp, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Patricia Dawson Wallace. Samuel Kenneth Howard will be honored as a distinguished retired faculty member.
Keep Waco Beautiful
Kay Metz introduced Sherri Street, executive director of Keep Waco Beautiful. Ms. Street recognized Sul Ross as the "Campus of the Month" in appreciation of their environmental and beautification efforts. Principal Debbie Sims accepted the award.
School Recycling Challenge Awards
Ms. Street introduced Parker Wilson, executive director with Keep McLennan County Beautiful, to assist in the presentation of the top three awards in the "Keep McLennan County Clean" competition. Eight Waco ISD schools competed in the "Keep McLennan County Clean" competition, which was held from October 15, 2007 through November 15, 2007. Viking Hills Elementary won third-place, recycling 4,180 pounds of material. Mountainview Elementary won second-place, recycling 81,569 pounds. Crestview Elementary won first-place, recycling 120,786 pounds. Out of the eight Waco ISD schools that participated in the contest, 212,007 pounds of material were recycled.
